Election guide available

The Voter Guide, an informative newspaper on the November election, is currently available in Mahoning County. The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County has copies available at its branches as well as other public and private business locations. The Guide is published by The League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown and is a compilation of information provided by the candidates. It includes local and statewide ballot information. The newspaper editor is Dr. Barbara Brothers, professor emeritus at Youngstown State University, and assistant editors are Diane Koch and Jean Engle. Financial support for the publication of the guide was provided by Bermann Electric, Butler Wick and Co. Inc., Citizen’s League of Greater Youngstown, Dominion Foundation, Farmers National Bank, Fireline Inc., FirstEnergy Foundation, First National Bank of Pennsylvania, First Place Community Foundation, Frank and Pearl Gelbman Charitable Trust, Home Savings Charitable Foundation, Key Bank and the Lariccia Family. The Voting Guide also is available online at www.cboss.com/LWV. The polls are open 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 6 in Ohio.

Surplus-vehicle auction

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The city intends to auction off 11 surplus vehicles Nov. 17. The auction, authorized by city council, will be conducted at the public works garage. The start time of the auction will be announced closer to the date. City lawmakers said eight of the vehicles are rated in poor condition, two are in good condition and one is in bad condition.

Halloween story time

EAST PALESTINE — A Halloween story time for all ages will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at East Palestine Memorial Public Library, 309 N. Market St. There will be stories, crafts and games, and children are invited to wear their Halloween costumes.

Donations for new home

CANFIELD — Those wanting to make monetary donations toward the construction of a new home for Rebecca Bailing and her family can do so at any Farmers National Bank in care of the Rebecca Bailing House Project. Backhoes razed the home on Shields Road in Canfield on Tuesday. The home was fraught with numerous problems, including mold and a leaking roof. Volunteers from throughout the Mahoning Valley have come together to build a new home for Bailing and her three children by Nov. 30. Sam Pitzulo, owner of Sam Pitzulo Homes in Canfield, is the general contractor.
