Youngstown native’s play in N.Y. festival
A play written by Youngstown native Cheryl (Lilko) Games has been selected for performance at a theater festival in New York.
Games’ play, “Onus On Us,” which is set in Youngstown, will be performed at the ID America Festival Nov. 10-20. The festival, which includes 30 plays from 15 states, focuses on short plays about American identity. It is held at the Clemente Soto Velez Center.
“Onus On Us” is about a woman, Millie, and her unemployed daughter, Peg. They are sitting at home trying to figure out ways to save money so that they can buy more lottery tickets when an activist for an environmental group knocks at the door, requesting a donation to help her group’s effort to enforce tighter pollution controls on the local steel mill.
Games is a graduate of Ursuline High School and Ohio State University, and also holds a master’s degree in play writing and acting. She currently works as director of marketing for the Falcon Theatre in Los Angeles, where she lives with her husband, David.
Games has written more than a dozen plays and screenplays, many of which have been produced in New York, Los Angeles and Columbus, Ohio. She said she enjoys writing about Youngstown and its people.
