Library to screen ‘Call of Cthulhu’ by H.P. Lovecraft

WARREN — Just in time for Halloween, Warren-Trumbull County Public Library will screen a “new” silent movie penned by horror master H.P. Lovecraft (1890-1937).

“The Call of Cthulhu” was produced by the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society (HPLHS) as an homage to the writer of weird fiction who has been called the successor to Edgar Allan Poe.

The 47-minute film is an adaptation of Lovecraft’s famous story of the same name.

It combines modern and vintage filmmaking techniques to create a 1920s-style silent movie with a haunting modern musical score.

“The Call of Cthulhu” is the story of a dying professor who leaves his great-nephew a collection of documents pertaining to the Cthulhu cult. The nephew pieces together details of the cult that so fascinated his grandfather, and begins to investigate.

The Cthulhu Cult as a crusade of his own. As he realizes the shocking and disturbing reality of the situation, his own sanity begins to crumble.

The screening will be at 2 p.m. Saturday. Reservations are not required.
