Lewis gets 33 years in prison in Martwain Dill shooting

YOUNGSTOWN — A city man is going to prison for at least 33 years for his role in a fatal daylight shooting of a man in a pickup truck last year at Glenwood and Earle avenues.

Visiting Judge Charles J. Bannon of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court imposed the sentence on Eric Lewis, 19, of Kenmore Avenue, in the death of Martwain Dill, 23, of West LaClede Avenue on Nov. 3, 2006.

Last week, a jury convicted Lewis of complicity to aggravated murder, and the judge sentenced Lewis today to 30 years to life in prison for that offense, plus three mandatory consecutive years for the firearm specification.

The other alleged gunman, Gary Crockett, 29, of Buckeye Circle, goes on trial next month on an aggravated murder charge. An autopsy could not determine what gun caused the head injury that killed Dill.

Bertrum Moore, 18, of Whitney Avenue, the alleged driver of the car containing the assailants, was convicted in June on the same complicity charge as Lewis and sent to prison for 20 years to life.
