City will check to see if business park property is OK

YOUNGSTOWN — The city will spend $32,180 to determine if 55 acres near a business park being offered to the municipality for free is environmentally safe.

The board of control approved the payment today to MS Consultants of Youngstown to conduct an environmental study of the former Youngstown Sinter Facility off of Division Street and near the city’s Ohio Works Business Park.

The property received national attention as it was shown during an HBO profile piece the cable network did on Kelly Pavlik shortly before the Youngstown resident won the middleweight boxing championship Sept. 29.

The current property owner wants to give the land to the city for no cost.
