Party, parade for levy

YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown city schools will sponsor an open tailgate party followed by a Levy Parade from Rayen Avenue to Stambaugh Stadium on Thursday for the first Chaney Cowboys vs. East Panthers football game. The public is invited to the 3:30 p.m. tailgate in the central administration building parking lot on Rayen Avenue. The parade, to show support for passage of a 9.5-mill tax levy Nov. 6, will leave the parking lot at 5:30 p.m. and move up Rayen to Fifth Avenue and on to Stambaugh Stadium at Youngstown State University. Those who attend the tailgate party will be given passes for admission to the game. The tailgate will feature refreshments, bands, songs and more, and the public is invited to show their school spirit with shirts, banners and signs. Game time is 7 p.m.

Hate graffiti at school

YOUNGSTOWN — Spray-painted hate symbols and racial epithets were removed by maintenance workers at Volney Rogers Junior High School, police said. At the north end of the building on North Hazelwood Avenue, someone sprayed the n-word twice, swastikas in three places, “KKK” in two locations and “white power” with the figure of a Klansman, reports show. The vandalism was discovered Monday.

Trumbull flu shot clinics

There will be two adult flu shot clinics in Trumbull County from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 1. The locations are Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave., Warren, and McMenamy’s, 325 Youngstown-Warren Road, Niles. They are for anyone 18 and older and pregnant women in their second and third trimester with a doctor’s prescription. There is no charge for those with Medicare part B and Anthem Senior Advantage cards. Otherwise, the charge is $15. The clinics are sponsored by the Trumbull County Health Department and heath departments in Warren, Niles and Girard.

Trick-or-treat event

NORTH LIMA — Glenellen Senior Living Community is hosting a trick-or-treat night for area children up to age 12. The event will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Glenellen, 9661 Market St. In addition to the afternoon’s edible attractions, a costume contest will be at 3:30. Volunteers and donations are welcome. Disorderly teenagers

YOUNGSTOWN — Pepper spray had to be used by police to break up a large crowd that kept moving on the East Side after the teenagers first gathered to watch a fight at Bennington Avenue and Stewart Street, near East High School, after school on Monday. The crowd moved to McGuffey Road and Kimmel Street, shouting obscenities at the officer on the scene. Four East students, two ninth-graders and two juniors, were taken into custody, charged with disorderly conduct and then released to parents or guardians.

Halloween parade

NEW MIDDLETOWN — The village fire department’s Halloween parade will be at 1 p.m. Saturday. Line-up will be 12:45 p.m. at the New Middletown Plaza on state Route 170. The parade will march to Springfield Elementary School, where there will be a party from 1 to 3 p.m.

Candidates’ forum

MINERAL RIDGE — The Christian Education Committee of First Presbyterian Church, 3654 Main St., will have a Weathersfield Township candidates’ night Sunday. The event will begin at 6 p.m. with the board of education candidates and the trustee candidates at 7:55 p.m.

McDonald candidates

McDONALD — An American government class from McDonald High School is hosting a meet-the-candidate forum at 7 p.m. Thursday. All the village’s candidates for school board and council have been invited to attend. The district’s five-year, emergency tax renewal levy will also be a topic of discussion. The forum will be in the school’s Gamertsfelder Auditorium, 600 Iowa Ave.
