HOWLAND — The township leaf-pickup program will begin Monday and run through November. Leaves will be picked up weekly. Use biodegradable bags and place them at the curb. Burning leaves is prohibited.

Sobriety-check results

YOUNGSTOWN — Members of the Mahoning County Operating a Vehicle Impaired Task Force conducted two zero-tolerance sobriety checks on the South Side on Thursday and Saturday. The combined results are: 238 stops with 12 OVI arrests, 23 driving-under-suspension arrests, four felony arrests, six speed citations, 18 safety belt and two child-restraint citations, according to Tracy Styka, task force coordinator.

Youngstown fires

YOUNGSTOWN — Tires inside a first-floor apartment at 2604 Tyrell Ave. were set on fire around 11:30 p.m. Monday and the blaze did about $15,000 in damage. The apartment was rented but the renter had not yet moved in. Earlier, at 9:15 p.m. Monday, fire crews were sent to 96 Eliot Lane and discovered a fire had been deliberately set in a closet of the vacant house. Damage was set at $2,000.

YMCA fall festival set

YOUNGSTOWN — YMCA officials promise an afternoon of safe, fun-filled entertainment for families at its Family Fall Praise Festival on Nov. 3. Dance and musical performances will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. The event will be at the Youngstown Central YMCA, 17 N. Pain management talk

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Dr. Thomas Ranieri, medical director of the Jameson Pain Clinic, will talk about pain management at 5 p.m. Monday at the Challenges: Options in Aging office in Shenley Square. Topics will include the causes of pain, chronic versus acute pain, how pain is measured, treatments available, and addiction concerns. A complimentary dinner will be offered by Jameson Hospital and Challenges. Reservations are due Thursday by calling (724) 658-3729. Arrested in robbery

YOUNGSTOWN — Police armed with an arrest warrant apprehended Quinton L. Jones, 18, of Idlewood Avenue at his home on a charge of robbery. Jones is accused of taking a cell phone and a wallet from a 23-year-old Idlewood Avenue man Oct. 16. Jones was arrested around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and lodged in Mahoning County Jail to await arraignment today. Police said a second suspect is being sought.
