YOUNGSTOWN — The Youngstown State University student organization United Nations Association of the United States of America (UNA-USA-YSU) is hosting a student forum at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Peaberry’s Cafe in Kilcawley Center. The date is United Nations Day, and the topic of the forum is the role and relevance of the United Nations in the modern world. Participating student organizations include UNA-USA-YSU, Amnesty International, College Republicans and College Democrats. It will be moderated by Dr. David Porter, a professor in the Political Science and Pre-Law Center and director of the Global Education Program, and Dr. Keith Lepak, associate professor in the Political Science and Pre-Law Center and director of Peace and Conflict Studies at YSU.

Workshop on youths
to take place in Vienna

VIENNA — Teen Straight Talk, a nonprofit organization that encourages young adults to abstain from sex, is hosting a two-day workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 3 and 10.

“Youth at a Crossroads in Today’s Culture” is open to parents, grandparents, youth workers, pastors, educators, counselors, community officials and the general public. The program will offer instruction on guiding youths to resist pressure to become sexually active.

The cost for the workshop is $50 for those who register before Oct. 25. Same-day registration will be $55. The event will be at the Teen Straight Talk Learning Center, 1393 Youngstown-Kingsville Road in Vienna. Lunch will be provided.

Salvation Army
seeking bell ringers

NEWTON FALLS — The Salvation Army here is looking for Red Kettle bell ringers for the holidays. The days to ring the bell are Nov. 21, 23, 24 and 25 and Dec. 14-16, 21-24. If these days don’t work, any day is available.

The Salvation Army asks that the volunteers ring for two hours a shift at Giant Eagle, IGA or Pamida. Times are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Singing, dancing, playing music or anything in good taste is allowed to attract attention.

Halloween event set
at Eastwood Family YMCA

NILES — Eastwood Family YMCA, 995 Youngstown-Warren Road, is having a Halloween event at 6 p.m. Oct. 26. It’s a free, safe, creative and a social experience for kids 12 and under. They can participate in a variety of activities and enjoy the decorations. A parent or guardian must accompany a child. The first 150 kids receive a trick-or-treat bag and a gift. Warren military band
invites area students

LIBERTY — The Warren Junior Military Band invites area band students ages 12-18 to join its October Honors Band Weekend to be held at Liberty High School (in the band room) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Registration for new people and returning members will be at 9 a.m. Saturday. Band members will perform for family and friends at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Block watch to meet

YOUNGSTOWN — Know Your Neighbor Block Watch will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane.

Trick-or-treat event

NORTH LIMA — Glenellen Senior Living Community is hosting a trick-or-treat night for area children up to 12. The event will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Glenellen, 9661 Market St. In addition to the afternoon’s edible attractions, a costume contest will be at 3:30. Volunteers and donations are welcome.
