So. Illinois blasts Missouri State; Western Kentucky crushes ISU

CARBONDALE, Ill. — John Randle scored three touchdowns Saturday to lead Southern Illinois to a 45-10 victory over Missouri State.

Saluki quarterback Nick Hill completed 20 of 26 passes for 241 yards and one touchdown for Southern Illinois (7-1, 3-1 Gateway Conference) but suffered three sacks.

The team’s other two touchdowns came off a 28-yard run from Deji Karim and a 58-yard run from Larry Warner. Kyle Dougherty kicked a field goal in the first period.

Missouri State (4-4, 1-3 Gateway Conference) didn’t score until the end of the second period with a 37-yard field goal from Nathan Stokes. Stokes missed a field goal attempt in the first period. A touchdown came from running back Gerald Davis with 40 seconds left in the third period.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Western Kentucky scored on its first seven possessions and ran for 380 yards.

Five Hilltoppers scored at least one rushing touchdown, and three scored two. Western Kentucky bolted to a 42-0 first-half lead on six touchdown runs of 15 yards or less.

The Hilltoppers (4-3) then added two more short touchdown runs in the third quarter before Indiana State (0-8) scored its lone touchdown on a 36 yard pass from Charlie Dowdell to Bryan McCulley.

David Wolke led Western Kentucky in rushing with 72 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns.
