MONTREAL — Roman Hamrlik had a goal and two assists to lift Montreal over Buffalo. Hamrlik flicked a backhand towards the net that bounced off goalie Ryan Miller’s right arm and into the net with Montreal enjoying a 5-on-3. Chris Higgins scored into an empty net with 24.9 seconds remaining to seal the win.

Bruins 1, Rangers 0, SO

BOSTON — Phil Kessel scored the lone goal in a shootout to give Boston the victory over New York. After the first five shooters failed in the tiebreaker, Kessel skated in on Henrik Lundqvist and fired a wrist shot under the crossbar. The former University of Minnesota star had four shootout winners as a rookie last season.

Flyers 3, Hurricanes 2, OT

PHILADELPHIA — Simon Gagne scored his second goal of the game 48 seconds into overtime and the Flyers won their fifth straight game. Mike Richards also scored for the Flyers, who won their fourth straight at home. The Flyers had not won five straight games since Dec. 22-29, 2005. Jason Willliams and Eric Staal scored for the Hurricanes, who had their three-game winning streak snapped by Pittsburgh on Friday night.

Islanders 4, Devils 3, OT

UNIONDALE, N.Y. — Bill Guerin’s power-play goal with 3.7 seconds left in overtime gave the Islanders the win over New Jersey after New York squandered a two-goal lead in the third period.

Blackhawks 6, Maple Leafs 4

TORONTO — Chicago scored five goals in the third period to rally past Toronto. Jason Williams, Andrei Zyuzin, Duncan Keith, Robert Lang, Patrick Sharp and Tuomo Ruutu, with an empty-netter with 25 seconds left, scored for the Blackhawks. Mats Sundin scored twice and Tomas Kaberle and Chad Kilger once each for the Leafs.

Lightning 6, Thrashers 2

TAMPA, Fla. — Martin St. Louis and Mathieu Darche scored 39 seconds apart during a three-goal second period to help Tampa Bay stay unbeaten in four home games this season with a win over Atlanta.
