Hatalas mark 50th with party and vows renewal
XPOLAND — John and Patricia Hatala, 1158 E. Calla Road, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
At a Mass on Sept. 30 at St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown, where they are members, the Hatalas renewed their vows with their family present.
The couple’s children and their spouses hosted a celebration Oct. 7 at the Bessemer Croatian Club in Bessemer, Pa. They are John Hatala of Columbiana, Debbie and Bruce Kowal of Poland, Cheryl and Thomas Fabian of Tempe, Ariz., and Karen and Ben Chaszeyka of New Springfield. Among the couple’s nine grandchildren, seven participated: Randy, Karlie, Allison, Sara, Benny, Tommy and Monica.
Mr. Hatala and the former Patricia Hassey married Oct. 5, 1957, at St. Elizabeth Church in Campbell.
Mrs. Hatala retired in 2002 as director of nursing at Ron Joy Nursing Home in Boardman. She also had worked at Diamondhead Extended Care Center in North Lima for 30 years and at Caprice Health Care in North Lima.
She is a member of the Youngstown Hospital Association Nursing Alumni and St. Paul Altar Guild.
Mr. Hatala retired in 1988 as head of produce operations at a privately owned grocery company in Pennsylvania. He had also worked at Loblaw’s/National Tea Co. in Youngstown.
He belongs to the Bessemer Croatian Club and the order of Eagles in both Youngstown and Brookfield, Pa.
Mr. Hatala, an Army veteran, served in the 1st Armored Division and 12th Cavalry Regiment.
