Bethany 41, Westminster 21

BETHANY, W.Va. — Freshman RB Marcus Santini had two touchdowns in the fourth quarter as the Bethany College football team scored 20 unanswered points. The win broke a four-game losing streak by the Bison and raised their record to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the PAC. It was the third straight loss for the Titans

Denison 42, Hiram 13

GRANVILLE — Hiram scored on its first possession of the first quarter to jump out to a 7-0 lead on a 7-yard touchdown run by freshman tailback Luke Lewis. In the second quarter, the Denison offense came alive scoring 28 unanswered points to lead 28-7 at halftime in the North Coast Athletic Conference game at the Deeds-Piper Stadium in Granville. The Terriers fall to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in the NCAC. The Big Red improve to 2-5 overall and 1-3 NCAC.

Grove City 14

GROVE CITY, Pa. — Grove City College fell to 3-3 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference while Washington & Jefferson is 7-0, 3-0. W&J led 21-0 at halftime, then extended the lead to 35-0 after three quarters. Grove City broke through with 10:51 left in the fourth quarter as freshman split end Zach Summy scooped up a fumble by senior tailback Wes Basham and carried the loose ball into the end zone for his first collegiate touchdown. A blocked punt set up Grove City’s first touchdown drive as senior wingback Ian Tobin blocked a Zack Zebrasky punt in W&J territory. Freshman safety Butch Kriger recovered the blocked punt at the W&J 25. Kriger also recovered two fumbles. Grove City (3-5 overall) posted its second touchdown of the afternoon with 6:58 left in the fourth quarter as junior tailback Brian Mercer scored on a one-yard touchdown run. Mercer’s score capped an 11-play, 58-yard drive. Tobin caught an 18-yard pass on third-and-15 during the drive, giving Grove City a goal-to-go situation. Tobin caught six passes for 36 passes. DiDonato completed 16 of 38 passes for 124 yards. W&J did intercept DiDonato three times however. Mercer led Grove City with 33 yards rushing on seven carries.

Waynesburg 25, Thiel 20

WAYNESBURG, Pa. — Jacques Newberry scored on an interception return and Scott Cree returned a punt for a touchdown, as Waynesburg held on. Newberry returned an interception 20 yards for a score with 4:00 left in the first quarter, which gave Waynesburg (7-0, 4-0 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference) a 12-0 lead. Cree scored on a 75-yard punt return with 2:54 left in the second quarter, giving the Yellow Jackets a 25-0 lead. Waynesburg also scored on a 1-yard run by Robert Heller and a 63-yard run by Aaron Davis. Heller rushed for 135 yards on 32 carries. Dan Hess and Marc LaScola led Thiel (2-6, 1-4). Hess scored on touchdown runs of 3 and 1 yards. LaScola completed 18 of 37 passes for 188 yards and one touchdown, but was intercepted five times.

Slippery Rock 38, Shippensburg 34

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — Nate Crookshank threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Paul Favers with two seconds left to lead Slippery Rock. The winning touchdown capped a fourth quarter in which both teams scored six times, including on successive kickoff returns of 68 yards by Paul Favers for Slippery Rock and 84 yards by Kevin Marshall for Shippensburg with less than 1:30 remaining. Crookshank completed 23 of 35 passes for 288 yards for Slippery Rock (7-1, 2-1 PSAC-Western Division.) He also connected with Colin Golden on a 23-yard touchdown pass and with Terry Grossetti on a 65-yard touchdown pass. Shippensburg (2-6, 1-2) also scored on touchdown runs of 1 yard by Aaron Dykes, 3 yards by David Richards, 15 yards by Gabe Maiocco. Maiocco completed 15 of 31 passes for 198 yards but was intercepted twice. He also connected with Tim Devanney on a 12-yard touchdown pass. Slippery Rock had 446 yards of total offense. Shippensburg had 403 yards of total offense.

Allegheny 27, Wooster 20

MEADVILLE, Pa. — Rodney Still ran for 64 yards and two touchdowns and T.J. Salopek threw for two touchdowns to help Allegheny beat Wooster. Salopek completed 18 of 24 passes for 262 yards. He connected with Jim Lieb on a 36-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, and with Pete Obourn on a 26-yard scoring pass in the second quarter for Allegheny (5-2, 3-1 North Coast Athletic Conference). Austin Holter completed 21 of 36 passes for 110 yards for Wooster (2-5, 2-2), finding Jordan Ferns on a 31-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. Dustin Sheppard scored on a 12-yard run. Andy Milligan kicked two field goals. Allegheny tallied 348 yards in total offense and held Wooster to 182 yards passing. Wooster had 129 yards rushing and held Allegheny to 86 yards rushing.
