Malone breaks ground on dorm

CANTON — Malone College is building a new residence hall to house 230 students.

Ground was broken on the project this month adjacent to Bob Starcher Field as part of Malone’s 50 Year Jubilee Homecoming celebration.

Malone has experienced a series of record enrollments in recent years with nearly 1,000 of its 2,385 students now living on campus. The addition of the new residence hall will bring the on-campus population to around 1,200.

The three-story, 52,000-square-foot facility was designed in a suite-style living arrangement.

It carries a price of $5.5 million and is being financed through tax free bonds through the Ohio Higher Education Facilities Commission.

January 2009 is the completion date.
