Loghurst picks hero theme for program for children

CANFIELD — ”Discovering Ohio’s Heroes!” is the theme for The Young Historians Club at Loghurst Farm Museum for 2007-08 season.

The club meets from 12:30 to 3 p.m. on the third Saturday of each month, December through April, at the museum at 3967 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Its programs are open to children ages 6 through 14.

The club also is open on the second and third Wednesday, December through April, for homeschoolers.

Kids may register for all five classes to be offered or only select programs.

Registration is $10 per workshop for Western Reserve Historical Society members and $12 per workshop for nonmembers.

Preregistration is required and must be made by calling Loghurst at (330) 533-4330.

Programs are filled with hands-on activities, games, guest demonstrators, first-person interpretations, crafts and special foods, all designed to encourage fun and learning.

Each month the children will work on constructing a unique three-dimensional floor-to-ceiling timeline and graph of our Ohio Heroes. Participants will also compile their own individual Heroes Notebook throughout the five-program series.

Side field trips for certain programs will also be available.

The scheduled programs are:

•Jan. 9, 16, 19: Civil War Heroes MaryAnn Bickerdyke and John Parker.

•Feb. 13, 16, 20: Inventive Heroes — The Wright Brothers and Grandville Woods.
