Task force forcusing on Ohio foreclosure crisis
YOUNGSTOWN — Ohio Treasurer Richard Cordray was smart enough to go undefeated in five appearances on the TV game show Jeopardy! in March 1987.
Mahoning County Treasurer Lisa Antonini is betting he is smart enough to help Mahoning and other counties across the state cope with the state’s foreclosure crisis.
Cordray and two assistants helped launch Mahoning County’s Save Our Homes Task Force Thursday at the Chevy Center. They showed local participants the methods that worked in Franklin County while Cordray was that county’s treasurer until last year. Antonini is heading up the Mahoning County effort.
Cordray said the foreclosure problem in Ohio is the “single biggest challenge in the state” and it won’t peak until March of next year, when the largest percentage of fixed-rate mortgages will reset from their starter rates to their higher rate.
