Sheriff seeks more money to fight drugs
LISBON — Columbiana County’s growing drug and crime problems are reflected in county Prosecutor Robert Herron’s appropriations request for 2008.
The county commissioners are having budget hearings with officials for next year.
Herron asked during a hearing Wednesday for $1.7 million to operate his office.
This year, he received $1.2 million. His office spent $893,137 in 2006.
Herron said he needed to add more workers.
Most of the drugs are coming into the county from Columbus. It’s mostly cocaine with some heroin, he added.
County Coroner Dr. William Graham also asked for an increase because of drug-related deaths.
The coroner’s office received $245,000 this year. The coroner asked for $372,207 next year.
