Sheriff doesn’t automatically lose drivers license

LISBON — A urine sample will let Columbiana County Sheriff David L. Smith keep his driver’s license.

Smith refused a portable breath test and didn’t comply with two other tests when he was stopped by the Ohio State Highway Patrol about 9:30 p.m. Oct. 11.

But the sheriff did give the urine sample, about two hours after he was stopped.

Lt. Jeff LaRoche of the Cambridge Post said Smith won’t automatically lose his license because he finally completed a test.
