‘Top 10’ list

Six Ohio communities were among the areas in the country with the largest percentages of their public school pupils enrolled in charter schools in 2006-07. The “Top 10” list shows:

1. New Orleans — 57 percent.

2. Dayton; Southfield, Mich.; and Washington, D.C. — tied at 27 percent.

3. Youngstown and Pontiac, Mich. — tied at 23 percent.

4. Detroit and Kansas City, Mo. — tied at 20 percent.

5. Toledo — 18 percent.

6. Cleveland; Cincinnati; Chula Vista, Calif.; and Milwaukee — tied at 17 percent.

7. Buffalo and Dearborn, Mich. — tied at 16 percent.

8. Oakland, Calif.; Brighton, Colo.; Albany, N.Y.; and St. Louis, Mo. — tied at 15 percent.

9. Minneapolis — 14 percent.

10. Columbus; Camden, N.J.; St. Paul, Minn.; Philadelphia; Vista, Calif.; Saginaw, Mich.; Mohave County, Ariz.; Napa Valley, Calif.; and Appleton, Wis. — tied at 13 percent.
