Poland delays action on leash ordinance

POLAND — Village council has postponed action an ordinance addressing dogs on leashes in the Poland Municipal Forest and plans a public hearing on the issue.

The date for the hearing hasn’t been set.

Earlier this month, council passed the first reading of an ordinance that would restrict animals off-leash to about one-third of the woods, the area between Butler Trail and Interstate 680.

For the remainder of the woods, people with dogs and cats would have to keep the pets either in a cage or on a leash no longer than 6 feet.

The ordinance had been set for a second reading this week — approval of three readings is needed for passage — but council decided to instead gather additional public input.
