Appeal filed in Columbiana County blue diamond case

LISBON — A couple is continuing its fight to regain a 4-carat Fancy Blue heart-shaped diamond valued at about $2 million.

Atty. Marshall D. Buck of Youngstown said an appeal was filed Wednesday with the Seventh District Court of Appeals.

The action asks the court to reinstate a preliminary injunction issued in 2006 by Judge C. Ashley Pike of Columbiana County Common Pleas Court to prevent the disposal of the diamond, as well as appealing Judge Pike’s final ruling in the case.

Judge Pike had ruled that the diamond could be released to a company that had filed a legal claim to the diamond.

The judge had given the plaintiffs, Craig E. Newbold and his wife, Hilda Rose Newbold, until Friday to appeal.
