Mattress fire causes $3K damage at South Side home

YOUNGSTOWN — A mattress placed against the furnace at 30 W. Boston Ave. ignited around 11:55 p.m. Monday when the furnace kicked on, the fire department said.

The American Red Cross was called to provide temporary living arrangements for the occupant and her 5-year-old son. Damage was set at $3,000.
