Andrews paces Cards in round 1

Fitch and Boardman face off Wednesday in Stow in Div I.

BOARDMAN — Megg Andrews scored 10 points with six aces, seven kills and two blocks, leading Canfield to a four-game victory over West Branch in a Division II sectional volleyball match Monday at Boardman High School.

The scores were 25-9, 25-12, 21-25, 25-15.

Rachael O’Hara had 28 assists and three kills for the Cardinals.

Diana Wallace led the Warriors with 10 points and 10 kills and Karli Kitzmiller had 12 assists, eight points and two aces.

BOARDMAN — Traci Vandegraft scored 23 points to pace Field in another first-round match. Kalli Kaptain added eight points.

Jill Wollet scored 14 points with six aces, eight kills and 15 digs for the Bulldogs. Katie Pompeii had six points, four aces, nine kills and six digs.

Division I

STOW — Senior middle hitter Sam Kozbial had seven kills and 14 blocks as Fitch defeated Kent Roosevelt, 25-12, 23-25, 25-6, 25-9.

Senior setter Lindsay VonSchwarz had eight kills, senior setter Kara Roche had 13 assists, junior libero Michelle Basista had 22 digs and junior middle hitter Rory Sachire had two kills, 20 serving points, three of which were aces for Fitch.

The Falcons (4-17) will take on Boardman Wednesday at 7 p.m.

SALEM — In the sectional tournament at Salem High School, Lisbon (8-14) defeated Newton Falls (6-14) 25-20, 23-25, 25-18, 25-17; East Palestine (14-9) defeated South Range (8-15) 25-10, 25-21, 23-25, 23-25, 15-5, and Brookfield (15-7) defeated Ursuline (3-19) 25-7, 25-15, 25-5.

BURTON — Angelica Pugh scored 10 points with five aces and 12 kills, leading LaBrae in the Div. III sectional at Berkshire High School.

Tiffany Olsen had 10 points, eight kills and seven digs for the Vikings (7-16).

The Golden Flashes (7-16) were led by Amber Ackerman with 12 kills and five blocks.

LaBrae next plays Berkshire Thursday at 5 p.m.

Division IV

LISBON — Carly Warnock scored 10 points with an ace and seven assists for Southern, which defeated Sebring 25-22, 25-18, 25-21, in a first-round match.

Tosha Cunningham had 12 points, six aces, two kills and two blocks for the Indians.

Emily Dickens led the Trojans with eight points and six assists. Danielle Seidel had six kills.

GRAND VALLEY — Southington defeated Andrews-Osborne Academy 25-20, 25-13, 25-8, and Lutheran East defeated Fairport Harbor 23-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-13 in first round Div. tournament matches at Orwell High School. Details were not reported.
