Canfield Eagle award

Walt W. Wollett, son of William and Kerri Wollett of Canfield, has received his Eagle Scout award, Boy Scouting’s highest honor. The court-of-honor ceremony took place at Canfield United Methodist Church.

Walt was a member of Cub Scout Pack 25 from 1997 to 2001, where he attained the highest rank of Arrow of Light.

He joined Boy Scout Troop 25 in March 2001 and his scoutmaster is Kevin Prus Sr. He is assistant scoutmaster and has held the positions of quartermaster, assistant patrol leader, patrol leader, assistant senior, patrol leader and senior patrol leader. He has earned 21 merit badges.

His special awards include the Gettysburg Trail Medal, Fifth-Year Pipestone and Philmont Arrowhead Patch. Special activities include the Tinnerman Wilderness Canoe Base in 2003 and 2006, Philmont Scout Ranch this year and Laurel Caverns, Mammoth Cave and Gettysburg.

For his Eagle Scout service project, he organized, designed, built and oversaw installation of a bookshelf at the Canfield War Veterans Museum.

Donald Crum, engineering graphics teacher at Canfield High School, helped with design, and Larry Scheetz of Austintown assisted with carpentry.

Walt is a senior at Canfield High School, where he was president of his junior class and is president of the senior class. He is a regional qualifier of the track team for the 400-meter dash. He also is a member of Key Club. His interests include journalism, business management and languages. He is a member of St. Paul Church in Salem.

Bazetta youth honored

Kyle Kuriatnyk, son of Kevin and Karen Kuriatnyk of Bazetta, received his Eagle Scout Award at a court-of-honor ceremony at Candlelight Knolls. He is a member of Western Reserve Council Boy Scouts of America Troop 54 of Arrowhead District with scoutmaster Keith Furst.

He was a member of Cub Pack 50 and is also a member of Wapashui Lodge 56 Order of the Arrow and a member of Venture Troop 4840 and Vienna Cougars Rifle Team.

His leadership experience includes senior patrol leader, patrol leader and quartermaster.

His Eagle service project was the gathering of donated materials for the renovation of the Beaver Trail at Mosquito Lake Park. After the materials were collected, Kyle coordinated two work sessions to complete the trail renovation project.

He is a junior at Lakeview High School.
