Stolen goods found at home
The theft of a motorcycle from a Boardman restaurant lot initiated the
investigation.
NEW SPRINGFIELD — Boardman police found more than $100,000 in stolen car and motorcycle parts at a Berlin Center home and business.
No charges have been filed.
Boardman police displayed the find Friday at Gobel’s Towing, South Range Road. The items were taken to Gobel’s after police found them at the home andv business in Berlin Center.
Detective Michelle Glaros said that a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle was reported stolen from the Rockne’s parking lot, U.S. Route 224, in early September.
The owner of the bike gave police the name of a possible suspect and, with assistance from the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office, police obtained the search warrants.
The home and motorcycle repair shop, both belonging to the same man, were searched Tuesday and police recovered parts of cars and motorcycles reported stolen from Boardman, Austintown, Youngstown, Poland, Niles and Pennsylvania.
The haul also included full cars and motorcycles.
“One of the motorcycles had been reported stolen in 1990 and never recovered,” said Detective Glenn Patton.
Glaros said that the vehicle identification numbers had been removed, but some items remained that allowed police to identify them.
Police found the license plate, for example, of the motorcycle reported stolen last month from the restaurant parking lot, Glaros said.
Most of a green Chrysler and a silver Grand Am sat outside at the tow yard alongside a tractor-trailer full motorcycles and car and motorcycle parts.
Patton said the Mahoning County prosecutor’s office will determine what charges to file. Possibilities include receiving stolen property and possession of criminal tools, he said.
