YOUNGSTOWN — Employment information was inadvertently omitted in a story on William Pallante of Canfield, who will be recognized as Outstanding MBA Alumnus at the Williamson College of Business Administration annual Alumni Banquet on Friday. He is vice president — commercial at RTI International Metals in Niles.
Pallante graduated from Youngstown State University with a bachelor of science in business administration in 1987 and received a master of business administration in 1994.
Pallante started with RTI in 1998 as a national account manager/managing director of Far East sales and was later promoted to vice president fabrication — RTI Fabrication & Distribution. Pallante began his career in 1983 as a research and development technician with Mold-Tech and was then hired as manager of market development for Thomas Steel Strip Corporation.
Penn State ice cream sale
SHARON, Pa. — The Penn State Shenango Alumni Society is holding its fall “A Taste of Penn State Ice Cream Sale.” Ice cream orders will be taken through Nov. 2 for ice cream made at The Creamery at Penn State’s main campus in University Park, Pa. The sale offers 10 flavors — vanilla, peachy Paterno, bittersweet mint, butter pecan, peanut butter swirl, death by chocolate, espresso fudge pie, chocolate chip cookie dough, cookies and cream and strawberry yogurt. The cost is $5 per half gallon or $5.75 per half gallon on orders of two or more. Grilled stickies from Ye Old College Diner will also be available at $3.50 per package. Ice cream pickup will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 17 at Sharon High School and from noon to 2 p.m. the same day at Augustine’s Pizza in New Castle. There is no Canfield pickup this year. Grovers know history
GROVE CITY, Pa. — Grove City College ranks second only to Harvard University in seniors’ knowledge of American history and institutions, according to a recent Intercollegiate Studies Institute study that tested colleges and universities nationwide. Overall, Grove City outranked most elite schools and recorded the highest increase in knowledge between freshmen and seniors than other Pennsylvania universities.
The study identifies the lack of knowledge most college students have about American history, government and politics and ranks colleges and universities according to strength of course work, learning and civic involvement.
Grove City seniors answered an average of 67.26 percent of the survey. Seniors at Yale University ranked fourth with 65.85 percent, Duke University seniors’ score of 63.41 percent ranked ninth, Princeton University seniors ranked 11th with 61.90 percent and Cornell University seniors finished 19th with 56.95 percent. Harvard University’s seniors topped the list with 69.56 percent.
Pumpkin hunt at Malone
CANTON — The Malone College senior class will hold its annual Great Pumpkin Hunt from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 27 in and near the Randall Campus Center at 515 25th St. NW. Tickets are $3.50 per child in advance or $5 at the door with a maximum charge of $15 per family. The event is open to children between the ages of 3 and 12, and they must be accompanied by an adult. For tickets, call (330) 471-8273. The event is designed as a a safe, fun alternative to traditional trick-or-treating. Nonscary costumes are welcome.
Stone House Halloween
SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Slippery Rock University will host “Halloween at the Old Stone House” from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 25 and 26. The event offers different ghost stories and plays in each room of the former stage coach stop. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted. Tours start at the front porch and lead visitors through the entire house. Phi Alpha Theta (campus history honorary), Brookfield Storytellers, Knoch High School students and members of the Center for Paranormal Study and Investigation will offer chilling tales. The Old Stone House is at state routes 8, 528 and 173.
Open house at Choffin
YOUNGSTOWN — Choffin Career & Technical Center will hold an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 24. There will be a free pasta buffet, demonstrations and tours.
Family night at Life Skills
WARREN — Life Skills Center of Trumbull County will hold a family night open house from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at the school, 458 Franklin St. S.E. Students, parents and others interested in learning more about the school are invited to attend. A meeting on the school’s title program will be held at 4 p.m. that day. For retiring teachers
WARREN — St. Paul's Church and the Retired Teachers Associations from Trumbull and Mahoning counties will present a free pre-retirement educator workshop from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 24 at the church. Some of the issues that will be addressed include health care, pensions, survivor benefits, disability issues, wills, trusts and Social Security. The speakers include representatives from the State Teachers Retirement System and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association and an attorney.
