Mercer County receives grant for global imaging system

MERCER, Pa. — Mercer County commissioners have received a grant to develop a global imaging system for the county.

The $480,000 grant came from the Federal Highway Administration, Department of Transportation.

Officials said an aerial flyover has been done and imaging completed. Commissioners approved an agreement late this week to have the Mercer County Regional Planning Commission develop the system.

The planning commission will be paid will $93,661, which is the county’s local share for the grant, to do the work.

Also, commissioners approved contracts with two agencies to provide services for Children and Youth Services. Family Care For Children and Youth, Milton, Pa., was awarded a $102,500 contract to provide homemaker services from July 1 to the end of this year.

Commissioners also approved a contract with Children’s Aid Home Program of Somerset County, Inc., Somerset for various services to be purchased as needed, ranging from $50 to $300 per hour.

Commissioners also hired Michael Webster of Grove City and Jennifer Stark, no address available, as temporary caseworkers at $28,310 annually; John Piatek of Hermitage as detective/investigator and Douglas Greenfield of Stoneboro as an investigator, both for the district attorney’s office at $16 hourly; and Cheryl Runge, no address available, as administrative assistant for the Juvenile Probation Department at $23,819.

They rehired Maximus Inc. of Harrisburg to develop the annual cost allocation plan for 2007-2009 for $7,200 a year, the same as the previous contract.

The cost-allocation plan is required for cost reimbursement to the county for programs funded by state and federal government and for some grants.

Commissioners also authorized purchase of a $15,957 printer/plotter/scanner for the county bridge department from Print-o-Stat, Cranberry, under the state purchasing program. The machine will replace a 15-year-old printer.
