KSU Trumbull Campus has scholarship reception

HOWLAND — Kent State University Trumbull Campus held its first scholarship reception on Sept. 14 at the Draime Estate Legacy Gardens.

The event, which will happen annually, is to recognize the students who have been awarded scholarships for the current academic year as well as the donors who have sponsored the scholarships.

Joseph Toto of Niles, an Honors College student, spoke on behalf of the students.

“All of us are thankful for the sponsors’ generosity because you are making a difference in our lives. I know I could not be standing where I am today, a nontraditional student with two children, without the scholarship support I’m getting for my education,” he said.

Benefactors had the opportunity to meet and speak with the students they helped.

“Holding this first scholarship reception is a vital part of our mission,” said Dr. Wanda Thomas, Trumbull Campus dean. “Many of our students need financial assistance. They juggle so much in their lives, so it’s important to recognize their academic accomplishments. And it’s important to recognize those whose investment not only helps these students but also helps our Valley.”
