Hubbard cruises past Champion
HUBBARD — Marc Kanetsky completed 13 of 23 passes for 239 yards, 138 of which were gained by Andre Taylor on five catches as Hubbard roared back from an early deficit to defeat Champion, 35-14, in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game Friday.
Following a 14-14 halftime tie, Hubbard managed to take the reins in the third quarter in the TAC game.
Kris Wildman’s 1-yard run for Champion and Andre Taylor’s 68 pass reception for a touchdown from Marc Kanetsky gave Hubbard (5-3, 4-1) a 7-6 edge early in the second quarter.
The Golden Flashes (4-4, 1-4) put another tally up when Joe Cvengros ran four yards and Cvengros found Ken VonBergen on a conversion pass for a seven-point lead at 1:14.
Taylor’s 50-yard TD pass reception from Kanetsky and John Madeline’s second PAT knotted the game at 14-14 with 0:58 remaining before halftime.
A fumble recovery at Champion’s 24-yard line during Wildman’s rushing attempt led to Hubbard’s go-ahead TD by Robert Wigfall from 3 yards out at 7:33 of the third. Madeline’s boot gave the Eagles the lead for good, 21-14.
The recovery occurred on the first play following a Mike Carnahan punt to Champion’s 19.
Wildman produced 145 yards on 28 carries, while Wigfall had 66 on 13 rushes. VonBergen was Champion’s top receiver with three for 68 yards.
Wigfall added a 13-yard TD run and Kanetsky also tallied from 5 yards out. Wigfall also had three receptions for 49 yards.

GIRARD — Kyle Stadelmyer scored five touchdowns on runs of 2, 6, 2, 3 and 18 yards and finished with 218 yards rushing on 37 carries leading the Indians (5-3, 4-1) to victory in the Trumbull Athletic Conference game.
Brian Watkins scored on a pair of 1-yard runs for the Vikings ((3-5. 1-4). Cameron Truss gained 133 yards on 20 attempts, which included a 56-yard TD run.

NEWTON FALLS — Te Elias scored on a 7-yard run and he caught a 53-yard touchdown pass from Jon Biehl for the Bulldogs (6-2, 5-0 TAC).
The Bulldogs’ Ben Moody, who scored on a 54-yard run, finished with 116 rushing on 17 carries.
John Davis gained 82 yards on 18 attempts, which included a 1-yard TD for the Tigers in the fourth quarter.
