Chaney falls yard short in 28-26 loss to Aquinas

LOUISVILLE — The Chaney High football team rushed for 413 yards against St. Thomas Aquinas.

They needed one more yard for their first win of the season after the game ended with the Cowboys on the Knights 1 yard line in Friday’s 28-26 loss.

Marquel Smith carried the ball 30 times to gain 260 yards, including touchdown runs of 50 and 16 yards.

Tyler Thompson carried the ball 10 times for 63 yards and Scott Williams scored a 50-yard touchdown.

Massillon 56
Harding 0

MASSILLON — K.J. Herring scored four touchdowns and rushed for 199 yards to lead Massillon to an easy romp over Warren Harding.

Herring had runs of 64 and 70 yards as the Tigers did all their scoring in the first three quarters.

Harding (3-5) was led by Jerrale Butts who rushed for 86 yards on 11 carries.

Warren JFK 49,
Tuscarawas Valley 21

ZOARVILLE — Jared Province rambled for six touchdowns as Warren JFK built a 49-0 lead over Tuscarawas Valley.

Province, who scored on runs of 20, 14, 4, 31 and 1 yard, also added a 75 yard punt return for a score. He finished with 149 yards rushing on 22 carries.

The Eagles improved to 6-2 on the season.

Ash. Sts. John-Paul 10

ASHTABULA — Brad Hughes scored three times and Eric Ocheltree tallied twice for the Mustangs (8-0, 4-0 East Suburban Conference).

Hughes rushed 12 times for 101 yards and also caught two passes for 63 yards.

Lucas Buckner completed five of seven passes for 161 yards for the winners. Ocheltree gained 111 yards on 10 attempts, while Brent Jackson picked up 107 yards on five carries.

Mathews had a lopsided 23-6 advantage in first downs against St. John-Paul, which threw three interceptions.

Other games

Pymatuning Valley defeated Southington 34-19, and Southeast lost to Field 49-6. No details from these games were reported.
