Canfield cyclist killed in hit-and-run

Anyone with information about the accident should call police.

BOARDMAN — A 34-year-old Canfield man was killed when a vehicle struck the bicycle he was riding and then left the scene.

Police identified the victim as Adam Huffman, Akron-Canfield Road, who was dead at the scene.

Huffman was riding his bicycle west in the 100 block of McClurg Road, just east of the Davis Family YMCA on Friday morning, when he was struck. Huffman had left work at AGC Glass, 365 McClurg, on his bicycle and was headed home.

Chief Patrick Berarducci said police believe the driver who struck Huffman also was traveling westbound on McClurg. That vehicle left the scene.

A co-worker traveling the road saw the injured Huffman and called 911 at 12:59 a.m.

Sgt. John Allsopp, supervisor of the police department’s traffic unit, said Huffman’s time card indicates he clocked out from work at 12:39 a.m.

“Due to the nature of this crash, we are requesting anyone that has any information at all to please contact the Boardman Police Department,” Allsopp said.

The department can be reached at (330) 726-4144.

“At this point in time, we are treating this crash as an accidental death, so it’s extremely important for whomever that was involved to contact the police department and let us know how the crash happened,” Allsopp said.

Investigators also are canvassing nearby businesses for information about the crash, and two businesses are turning security video footage over to police.

The videos will be sent to an outside lab for enhancement.

The Mahoning County coroner’s office also is assisting with the investigation.
