Betras show to look at Beeghly hospital sale
YOUNGSTOWN — Sunday’s “David Betras Show” will examine how the sale of Beeghly Medical Park to Akron Children’s Hospital will affect health care in the Mahoning Valley. The sale is awaiting state approval. Betras’s guests , Dr. Joni Canby and nurse Mary Walla, will discuss the ramifications of the sale.
The sale would mean the closing of the Women and Infants Pavilion at Beeghly and the shifting of births to Northside Hospital. The neonatal care unit at the Pavilion will also cease to exist, and there will be no equivalent facility at Northside. Therefore, newborns who face health risks will have to be sent elsewhere.
The Emergency Room, the Women’s Breast Center and the Outpatient Surgery Center at Beeghly Medical Park will also close if the sale is completed.
The “David Betras Show” airs at 10:30 a.m. on WFMJ-TV 21.
