“Some people think of Africa as one place,” said the Rev. Nii Teiko Dagadu, chairman of the Presbytery in the Greater Accra Region in Ghana.
About the country: Ghana is one of 54 countries on the continent, and its population is about 23 million. It’s located in the southwest part of Africa. Ghana is about the size of the state of Oregon.
Industry: About 55 percent of the people are farmers, but there are white-collar jobs, said the Rev. Mr. Dagadu. Cocoa is the main product, and gold also is mined. “Oil has been discovered,” Mr. Dagadu said, “and we’re praying it is a blessing.”
Government: A democracy. “Faith groups work in harmony with the government,” Mr. Dagadu said.
Religions: About 67 percent are Christians (for example, Presbyterian, Catholic, Pentecostal and Baptist), and 15 percent are Muslims. “We believe Christ came for everyone,” Mr. Dagadu said. He said Presbyterians number about 5 million.
