Youngstown superintendent outlines administrative cuts

YOUNGSTOWN — The city school district’s administrative ranks have been cut by 36 percent as it works to recover from a $15 million budget deficit.

Youngstown has a 9.5-mill, five-year tax levy on the Nov. 6 ballot that it is asking taxpayers to approve as part of that financial recovery effort.

Some opponents of the levy proposal have been critical of the district’s staffing, claiming that Youngstown is top heavy and that administrators haven’t taken their share of the cutbacks as 250 jobs and $17 million has been cut from spending over the last two years.

Dr. Wendy Webb, superintendent, issued a report Thursday to the Financial Planning and Supervision Commission overseeing district spending showing that the number of administrative cuts have been significant.
