Trumbull County expected to award water-tank contracts

WARREN — Trumbull County commissioners are expected to award a $1,210,000 contract to Chicago Bridge and Iron Constructors Inc. of Sewickley, Pa., to build a water storage tank along Mahoning Avenue, just south of Airport Road, in Champion.

They are also expected today to award a $45,649 contract to B&J Electric of Poland for electrical work on the tank.

About $90,000 more will be paid to Thomas Fok Associates of Warren for engineering.

Some $708,671 of the money will be borrowed from the Ohio Public Works Commission at zero percent interest. The county will pitch in $720,000 and Champion Township will kick in $5,000. Some extra has been allowed to cover unexpected costs.

County officials said the tank is being built to increase water pressure for fire protection and to provide water for development to areas north of Airport Road.

The tower should be built by the spring, but will require about six months of chlorination and testing before it is ready to use.
