them of ATHENA forum
HOWLAND — “Why Politics Should Matter To Women,” an ATHENA leadership forum, will be at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Avalon Inn. The Regional Chamber and Youngstown State University are sponsoring the event.
The breakfast will focus on how women are exerting their leadership through the political process. Julie Graber, senior associate for strategic planning for the Institute on Women, Gender and Public Policy at Ohio State University, will provide results of a new report on women in politics and leadership in Ohio.
Dr. Paul Sracic, political science professor at Youngstown State University, will discuss voting patterns and the significance of the “women’s vote.”

Hyundai Alabama plant
to shut down for 10 days
SEOUL, South Korea — South Korea’s Hyundai Motor Co. said Wednesday it will shut its auto plant in Alabama for 10 days during the fourth quarter amid sluggish demand.
Hyundai’s Montgomery, Ala., plant manufactures the midsize Sonata sedan and the Santa Fe sport-utility vehicle. Most of the 3,300 employees at the plant will have the option of taking vacation days or personal time, which would allow them to be paid.
Waste Management aims
for environmental updates
HOUSTON — Waste Management Inc., the nation’s largest garbage hauler and landfill operator, plans to spend hundreds of millions of dollars over the next dozen years to make its operations more environmentally friendly.
The company plans to increase its energy production from waste, buy more fuel-efficient vehicles and more than double the amount of recyclable material it processes, among other initiatives.
Waste Management chief executive David Steiner is scheduled to announce the plan today at the World Business Forum in New York.
