Man charged in shooting
NEW CASTLE, Pa. — A Lee Avenue man is charged with attempted homicide in a shooting on the city’s east side.
Justin Johnson, 24, was arrested Saturday after the shooting victim identified him. The victim told police Johnson accused the victim of being a snitch and then pulled a gun just before 10 p.m.
The victim told police he ran. A pizza delivery man found the victim lying on the sidewalk in the 100 block of Pine Street at 9:52 p.m. and called 911. The victim had a gunshot wound to his back, police said.
Pine Street residents told police they heard five gunshots Saturday night. The victim was taken to a Pittsburgh Hospital for treatment and has since been released, police said.
Johnson was arrested just before midnight Saturday as he was riding in a vehicle with three other men in the Harbor Heights public housing project.
Police said they found a semiautomatic handgun in the vehicle that they later confirmed was stolen.
Johnson also is charged with aggravated assault, being a former convict not allowed to carrying a firearm, receiving stolen property, carrying a firearm without a license, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, possession of a small amount of marijuana and harassment.
