HOMELESSNESS | By the numbers


There were 249 homeless people living in Mahoning County, according to a study conducted in January. Of that total:

232 were living in shelters.

17 were living on the streets.

128 were part of a homeless family.

121 were alone.

28 of the individuals were considered chronically homeless.

23 were believed to be severely mentally ill.

87 were classified as chronic substance abusers.

49 were victims of domestic violence.
