Congressman Wilson has emergency surgery
U.S. Rep. Charlie Wilson, D-6th, was in stable condition following today emergency colon surgery performed in Washington, D.C., according to a statement from his office.
Wilson of St. Clairsville underwent a routine screening colonoscopy Monday in Ohio. He flew Tuesday to Washington, and wasn’t feeling well, according to his office.
Wilson, whose district includes all of Columbiana County and a portion of Mahoning County, followed up with a visit to the attending physician of Congress.
The attending physician recommended that Wilson go to the hospital and accompanied the congressman to George Washington University Hospital in Washington.
Doctors there admitted Wilson after determining he sustained a colonic perforation following the colonoscopy. Wilson’s doctors determined surgery was necessary, and did it Thursday.
Wilson is expected to be in the hospital for the next five to seven days and then will continue to rest at home in St. Clairsville. Wilson plans to return to a light congressional schedule within a few weeks. All of his offices remain open for business.
