United Way reaches 11% of goal

SALEM — The 2007-8 Northern Columbiana County United Way campaign has raised $30,618, or 11 percent of a $266,000 goal, that will be spread among 22 local nonprofit service organizations.

“Last year at this time our United Way was at 15 percent,” according to board President Roger Hack.

This year’s drive will repeat a big boost from the Salem Retail and Business Association of the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce. The 11th annual “Taste of Salem” will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Salem Golf Club. Special cuisine from many local restaurants will be served as patrons choose from a variety of foods. Tickets are $25 each and are available by calling the Chamber office at (330) 337-3473.

Proceeds donated to United Way will help the 22 agencies in Columbiana, East Palestine, Hanoverton, Leetonia, Lisbon, New Waterford, Rogers, Salem, Salineville, Summitville and Washingtonville.

Help will again come from the Salem Community Foundation as a 10 percent match to donations made with checks payable to United Way/Salem Community Foundation.  Donations that may be sent to the United Way office at 713 E. State St., Salem, Ohio 44460.
