Much of session spent discussing traffic matters

HILLSVILLE, Pa. — Mahoning Township supervisors will ask the township engineer to study a bend on Churchill Road to determine whether overlength trailers should be prohibited there.

They also agreed at their meeting Tuesday, to also study the township’s holding tank ordinance to see if it needs to be updated to comply with new Department of Environmental Protection rules.

The ordinance affects several township businesses which have sewage holding tanks.

Supervisor Poncho Exposito said it will be a month or two before the results are known of a traffic impact study being done by Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to prepare for the announced location of a proposed racetrack complex on U.S. Route 422.

He said the survey will determine whether any work needs to be done on Route 422, U.S. Route 224 or Pa. Route 551 to deal with anticipated heavier traffic loads.

Supervisors also agreed to look into a resident’s complaints about speeding on Route 422 near Matthews Road and to review the township’s ordinance on nuisance noise to determine what the limits are as far as outdoor concerts.

They also rehired Phillip Weiner & Co., New Castle, to audit the township books. The hourly rate was not available.
