South Side blazes keep firefighters busy
YOUNGSTOWN — The fire department responded to these South Side blazes over the past few days:
At 11:30 p.m. Monday, unintentional kitchen fire at 146 W. Florida Ave. Occupant apparently fell asleep and was awakened by smoke detector. Damage set at $2,300.
At 10:45 p.m. Monday, intentional fire at 209 Ellenwood Ave. Vacant structure allowed to burn down. Damage set at $3,000, a total loss.
At 12:15 a.m. Monday, porch fire at 2811 Hudson Ave., a vacant house. The cause remains under investigation. Damage was set at $5,000.
At 11:50 p.m. Sunday, fully involved fire at 147 Ellenwood Ave. It wasn’t immediately clear if the structure had been occupied. Radiant heat ignited the house next door. The cause is listed as under investigation. Damage was listed at $2,500, a total loss.
Wood siding at the vacant house next door, 133 Ellenwood Ave., ignited and spread through the attic. Damage was set at $750.
