CORTLAND — The Lakeview Board of Education approved a contract for services with the Trumbull County Educational Service Center for the 2007-08 school year.
The contract will cost the district $426,600. TCESC provides services to the district such as educational aids, guidance counselors, therapists and special education transportation.
The district entered into a contract last year for $461,200, but received a refund for approximately $32,000 because the contract was for more services than what the district used.
“We really get a bang for our buck,” said Superintendent Robert Wilson.
Wilson said since many of these services are on an “as needed” basis, it makes financial sense for the district to contract out rather than hire full-time employees for the positions.
The district looked at hiring full-time employees for these services a few years ago, but the costs well exceeded the cost of contracting with TCESC.
In other board business Monday, the board voted to approve a trip for the Lakeview High School Symphonic and Concert bands to compete in the National Heritage Festival Competition in Chicago next spring.
The trip will take place April 18-20. Similar competitions in Cincinnati, Chicago, and Williamsburg, Pa., resulted in first-place awards for the district in the past.
Officials are planning a museum visit and a show by the Blue Man Group during the trip.
