GM Lordstown workers OK new labor contract

LORDSTOWN — Workers at General Motors Lordstown complex have joined with most other union locals in support of a new labor contract.

In voting that ended today, the tentative agreement was approved at both the Lordstown assembly and fabricating plants. The plants have different United Auto Workers locals.

As of Monday, 23 locals had approved the contract and three had rejected it, The Detroit Free Press said. More than half of GM’s work force had voted by Monday, the paper said.

UAW officials have said voting is to be conducted by Wednesday. The agreement ended a two-day strike and includes lower wages for new workers who don’t have production duties and a new health care fund for retirees that would be funded by a $30 billion contribution from GM.
