2-year-old bitten in face by pit bull

YOUNGSTOWN — A 2-year-old boy was bitten in the face by a pit bull dog at his North Evanston Avenue home after apparently falling over a shirt and startling the animal, reports show.

The boy was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center Monday afternoon to be treated for a cut that started in the middle of his forehead, went between his eyes and stopped near his left jaw, police said. The mother had been asleep on the couch while the child was on the floor with the dog.

A witness in the room said the dog jumped up and bit the boy after being startled. The dog was then locked in a bedroom. The mother told police the dog belongs to her boyfriend who is in jail.

A dog warden called to the scene left the animal there, telling the mother to watch the dog for 10 days, and said he would follow up. Police discovered the house had no running water and told the mother to stay elsewhere until the water is turned on.
