Church selling pumpkins

AUSTINTOWN — Austintown Community Church, 242 S. Canfield Niles Road, will host a pumpkin sale Oct. 14 through 31. Pumpkins, Indian corn and gourds will be on sale to the community from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday. The church also will be host a fall festival that is free to the community from 10 to 6 p.m. Oct. 20 and 1 to 6 p.m. Oct. 21. It will feature games, live music, food, hayrides and more. There will be a classic car show from 1 to 4 p.m. and a praise concert at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 20. The public may enter the classic car show. Prizes will be awarded. Proceeds from the pumpkins and fall goods will benefit the ministries and outreach of the church. Some of those ministries include food and clothing distribution, mission trips, various youth ministries, building projects and more.

Culvert replacement

HUBBARD — Chestnut Ridge Road between Hubbard Masury Road and Hubbard Thomas Road will be closed Friday for a culvert replacement, the Trumbull County engineer’s office reported. The suggested detour roads are state Route 62 and Hubbard Masury Road.

Government seminar

GREENVILLE, Pa. — High school students will get a firsthand look at state government at a seminar Friday offered by state Sen. Bob Robbins of Greenville, R-50th. More than 100 students from 15 schools are expected to participate in the daylong seminar at Thiel College. State Reps. Michele Brooks of Jamestown, R-17th, and John Evans of Edinboro, R-5th, will participate.

Nature walk planned

VILLA MARIA, Pa. — Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center will conduct an Autumn Wildflower Nature Walk from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday on the trails at the center. Amy Schuler, a naturalist with Mill Creek Metro Parks, will lead the walk. Registration is required by Wednesday. The fee is $5. Grant to help fight
violence against women

YOUNGSTOWN — The Tri-County Family Violence Prevention Coalition has received a $9,000 grant to aid its “A Call to Men” initiative, which encourages Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana county men to take a stand against violence toward women. The coalition is planning an event May 10 to train area men in the program’s principles. Participants will be trained to challenge sexism and educate young men about their role in ending violence against women. The Tri-County Family Violence Prevention Coalition is a subsidiary of Help Hotline Crisis Center Inc. The grant award is courtesy of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley. Lane restrictions

BOARDMAN — Beginning Oct. 15 and continuing through mid-November, U.S. 224 between West Golf Drive and West Boulevard will have various lane restrictions for milling and resurfacing.
