Three women bowlers set for induction
YOUNGSTOWN — The 40th annual achievement awards dinner and 31st annual bowling Hall of Fame induction, sponsored by the U.S.B.C. Women’s Bowling Association will be today at the ITAM Centre.
The awards dinner will recognize the accomplishments of outstanding women from the 2006-07 season.
During the hall of fame segment, Carol Kozbial will be inducted into the achievement and meritorious service categories, Roseanne Winner will be inducted for meritorious service and Nancy Sauerwein will be inducted into the Star of Yesteryear category.
A social hour begins at 5 p.m.; a buffet dinner follows at 6.
Kozbial
UWas a YWBA member for 25 years with high average of 189, top single of 279 and best three-game series of 663.
UBowled in 20 YWBA city tournaments, 15 Ohio Women’s Bowling Association tournaments and 13 nationals.
UIn 1999, was with Dorothy Andrews, Flip Dorsch and Donna and Alice Kincaid on a team that won the YWBA city tournament’s handicap and actual event.
UHas had many 260-or-better games and placed first in Div. II (160-174 average category) with a 279 single.
UServed as YWBA director for seven years, secretary for two and executive director for two years. Also a life member since 2006 and chairman of the achievement awards banquet for 10 years.
UHas been “Bowl for the Cure” tournament director for the past five years and served as director of the Youngstown Junior Bowling Association.
UHas been Hubbard High School’s girls varsity bowling coach for the past six years. Her teams were Trumbull Athletic Conference champs three years and was a state qualifier in 2005-06.
Winner
UHas been a 30-year YWBA member with high game of 259 and top three-game series of 679.
UBowled in 28 city tournaments, 25 OWBA tournaments and 13 national events.
UIn 2002, was a member of the Div. I team champion in the 9-pin no-tap tournament with Cindi Pantea and Jessica Hartzell. The team rolled 2,220.
USet up three new events for Youngstown bowlers: 9-pin, “Bowl for the Cure” and Masters; has helped raise money for cancer research and cancer organizations in the area since 2002.
UServed as an eight-year director, Sgt.-at-arms for two, secretary for six and is currently YWBA president. Attended all state and district workshops, Dap luncheons and roundtables since becoming a YWBA director.
UInvolved with the 1987 Ohio State Women’s Bowling Association tournament held in Youngstown and served on the “Get Acquainted” dinner for the OWBA convention. Brought the state event back to Youngstown in 2007.
UMember of the Youngstown Bowling Council for eight years, rotating the presidency for four.
UServed as director of the Youngstown Junior Bowling Association for three years, Sgt.-at-arms for three and was first vice-president for five years and chairman of the banquet and scholarship committees.
Sauerwein
UA 42-year YWBA member, whose highest three-game series was 688, best game 299 and top average 188.
UBowled in over 20 city tournaments, 35 Ohio Women’s Bowling Assn. state events and five nationals.
UBowled in the King Arthur Ladies League for 32 years, nine of which were as president. Sauerwein was also the Friday Niners secretary for four years.
UServed as YWBA director for nine years and a member emeritus since 2006.
UIn 1981, was with Rose Bowles, Linda Haefke, Dee Lathrop and Betty Niziolek on the actual team champion. That same year, Sauerwein was also singles actual champ. Has been listed in the top 10 averages multiple times and has had many 260-or-better games.
UHas been chairperson of the YWBA senior tournament and, with her husband’s company, North Lima Tire, has been a sponsor.
