McDonald captures Div. III Legends meet


Warren JFK senior Audrey Maheu won the girls Division III run.

BAZETTA — T.J. Holland (16:58) and Jerald Dugan (17:30) placed second and seventh leading McDonald High School to the Division III championship with 54 points in the Legends cross country meet Saturday at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds.

Tom Bottorff (17:31) and A.J. Grayson (17:39) finished eighth and 11th helping Maplewood take third place with 87 points. Warren JFK was 15th with 177.

John Sobonya (16:40) of Trinity won the run.

The Boardman High boys placed 11th with 258 points and Fitch (435) was 14th in Div. I. Cleveland St. Ignatius won the team title with 92.

Gus Dudek of Green took first place in 16 minutes, nine seconds. Matt Moore (16:54) of the Spartans was 14th.

Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy took the Div. II crown with 41 points. Lakeview was 10th with 329 and Champion was 14th with 412.

Kyle Sullinger (16:52) of CVCA won the run. Andy Innocenzi (19:41) of Lakeview was 50th.

Gilmour Academy won the girls Div. III crown with 51 points. Maplewood was fourth with 124, McDonald was fifth with 125, Warren JFK was 10th with 280 and Badger was 13th with 330.

Audrey Maheu (20:09) of JFK took first place in the run. Rebekka Simko (20:23) of Gilmour Academy was second.

Katie Gillespie (19:13) won the run leading CVCA to the girls Div. II title with 26 points. Lakeview was sixth with 163.

No results were reported for the Div. I girls run.

Salem girls MAC champs

SALEM — The Salem girls cross country team scored 17 points to win their fourth straight Metro Athletic Conference championship at Memorial Park.

Liz Shivers took first place for the Quakers in 20 minutes, one second.

The Quakers’ Lauren Shivers (20:02) placed second, Sarah Yerkey (20:24) was third, Betsy Yuhaniak (20:42) was fourth, Danielle Tiberio (20:54) of Canfield was fifth and Salem’s Alexis Thorne (21:30) and Lexi Shivers (21:34) were sixth and seventh.

Canfield took the boys title with 49 points. Struthers was second with 53.

Robert Zanni (16:56) of Struthers won the run and Aaron Sutton (17:18) of Howland was second.

Mooney girls Diocese champs

CANTON — Christina Oles (21:34) placed second leading the Mooney High girls to the Diocese cross country title with 25 points at Canton Central Catholic High.

Tina Oprean (20:33) of Canton Central Catholic won the race.

St. Thomas Aquinas took the boys title with 21 points. Tony Migliozzi of the Knights won the race in 16 minutes, 55 seconds. Mooney came in second with 43 points, Canton Central Catholic was third with 72.

Lordstown runs to title

BERLIN CENTER — Jacob DiEugenio took first place in 17 minutes, 56 seconds and teammate Scott Chaffee (18:05) was second, leading Lordstown to the boys title with 24 points at the eighth Western Reserve Invitational.

Mineral Ridge placed second with 53 points.

Samantha Hamilton (20:53) of Jackson-Milton won the girls race. Caitlin Sharp (21:15) of East Canton was second.

Waterloo took the title with 36 points and East Canton was second with 43.
