Heldmans mark 70th anniversary in September


XBOARDMAN — Mr. and Mrs. Otis R. Heldman celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with family and close friends over the Labor Day weekend in September at their home at 695 E. Western Reserve Road.

The Heldmans’ family includes their daughters and son-in-law, Rachel and Doug Duennes of Philadelphia and Dr. Elizabeth Heldman of Poland, and their grandchildren, Atty. John and Leisha Rego of Cleveland; Dr. James Rego of Claremont, Calif.; Philip Duennes of Philadelphia; and Amy and Joe Tibert of Los Angeles.

The couple also have three great-grandchildren. A son Otis R., and a grandson, Matthew Otis Heldman, are deceased.

Mr. Heldman and the former Phyllis Purnell were married Aug. 28, 1937, at Struthers United Presbyterian Church, where they are members. Mr. Heldman attended the College of Wooster and Youngstown College, and retired as general turn foreman in 1977 from Lykes Youngstown Steel. A 70-year-member of Western Star Lodge, he has also been a member of Aut Mori Grotto for more than 65 years.

Mrs. Heldman graduated from the Youngstown Hospital School of Nursing and was a registered nurse who practiced private duty nursing before retiring to raise a family.
