Cardinal Mooney boys 2-1 winner at Erie Cathedral Prep


Fitch and Niles tied while South Range won.

ERIE, Pa. — Leo Hicks and Matt McWilson each scored a goal Saturday as the Mooney High boys soccer posted a 2-1 victory over Erie Cathedral Prep.

Mooney (11-2-1) got an assist from Mike Dzuricky. Jon Critell, goalkeeper, made seven saves for the Cardinals.

Andy Lubahn scored the goal for Erie Cathedral Prep. Mike Kickle had eight saves.

JVs: Erie Cathedral Prep, 2-0.

Fitch 1, Niles 1

AUSTINTOWN — Brian Remias scored on Eric Braxton’s assist for the Falcons.

Fitch goalkeeper Jason Haseley had nine saves. 

South Range 3, Mathews 1

VIENNA — Brennan Witmer, Nick Scheetz and Alex Baker had a goal apiece in a game in which all of the scoring was done in the second half.

South Range goalkeeper Luke Yeagley made eight saves.

Heartland 6, Leetonia 3

COLUMBIANA — Allen Wei and Treg Lunger had two goals, while Durand Foutz and Justin Waldern had one apiece for the Lions (12-2).

Goalkeepers Chris Palmer and Tyler Burgess combined for 16 saves.

Waterloo 2, Crestview 1

ATWATER — Brianna Vlaiku had the goal for Crestview (4-11) with Amanda Kissinger providing the assist.

Waterloo evened its record at 7-7.

Warren Harding 2, Bristol 0

BRISTOLVILLE — Jessica Yuricek scored a goal on an assist from Katie Polenick in the first half for the Raiders (10-3-0).

Anna Montecalvo scored the second goal on an assist from Polenick in the second half.

Averille Merten, goalkeeper, made four saves and Stephanie Cross had three for the Raiders.

Heidi Ulrich made five saves for the Panthers (3-5-3).

Champion 2, Conneaut 0

CHAMPION — Heather Beachy and Erika Stevens scored a goal apiece for the Golden Flashes (6-7). Jessica Craley had an assist. Beth Sayers had four saves.

Kelsey Kehoe had seven saves for Conneaut.

Boardman 7, Springfield 0

BOARDMAN — Lea Byers scored two goals and had one assist to lead Boardman (9-2-2).

Nathalie DeChellis, Courtney Gratz, Jaime Avona, Jenna Mackey and Kristy Lake each had one goal.

Jessica Winters had two assists while Samantha Peters and Heather Hughes had one assist each.

Boardman goalkeeper Cheyenne Khatib made three saves.

Springfield is 9-4-1.

Fitch 3, St. Joe’s Academy 0

CLEVELAND — Freshman forward Tori Koch had two goals, while had senior right midfielder Kayla Shuttleworth had another goal for Fitch (9-3-2).

Dana Lucido, Christian Goleno and Kelsey Martin each had an assist for the Falcons.

Sam Zotheib had eight saves for St. Joe’s (2-11) while Fitch’s Ali Tolich made six stops.

Badger 4, Ashtabula Edgewood 2

KINSMAN — Shawna McNeely scored three goals for the Braves (9-5-1). Amelia Dereway added the other goal. Jenna Miller had three assists and Taylor Phillips had one.

Meghan Jenks and Jordan Cunha each had a goal for Edgewood.

Cayll Calogero, goalkeeper, made 12 saves. Katy Dvorak had four saves for the Braves.
