BOARDMAN — A car seat checkup event will be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday at Babies “R” Us, 1240 Doral Drive, the Mahoning Valley Safe Kids Coalition said. Reservations are preferred and can be made by calling (330)-675-2590, but walk-ins are also welcomed.
Boil-water alert lifted
CORTLAND — A water boiling alert that went into effect in Cortland on Friday due to a water main problem has now been lifted. Cortland Service Director Don Wittman announced Saturday afternoon that customers may resume normal water use.
Harvest Day Celebration
VILLA MARIA, Pa. — Villa Maria Community Center and Sisters of the Humility of Mary will hold the seventh annual Harvest Day Celebration from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. Activities include hayrides, pumpkin painting, raffles, herb crafts, nature trail walks and drumming circle. Entertainment includes banjo playing and Jot the Clown. Vendors will sell ceramics, nature photography and weavings, and The Villa Shoppe will offer jewelry, purses, coffee, tea and art prints. Organic produce, pumpkins, mums, straw bales, cornstalks and crafts will be sold. Food will be available. The event is free but registration is requested by Thursday. Firewood available
YOUNGSTOWN — Mill Creek MetroParks’ wood storage lot on West Golf Drive, just south of Stitt Pavilion, will be open Oct. 20 and Oct. 21 for people who want to cut and load firewood. There is no fee for the firewood, but individuals must bring a chain saw and cut and load their own wood. The lot will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. No firewood may be removed from Mahoning County because of a quarantine for emerald ash borer. Only 15 vehicles will be permitted in the storage lot at a time. Trucks larger than pickup size and trailers attached to trucks aren’t allowed, but cars with trailers under 8 feet are permitted.
Flu shot clinic in Niles
NILES — Flu shots will be given by the city health department at the Niles Senior Citizens Center, 14. E. State St., from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 19 and 26. Vaccine will be given to those 50 and older or any age with a chronic illness. Medicare, Medicaid and Anthem Senior Advantage cards are required. For all others, the cost is $15. Genealogy workshop
YOUNGSTOWN — The city’s historical center is offering a genealogy workshop from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Participants will discuss basic research methods and tools. The event will be held at 151 W. Wood Street. Workshop fees will be $10 for Ohio Historical Society members and $15 for nonmembers. For reservations call (330) 743-5934.

YOUNGSTOWN — Several roads through Mill Creek Park will be closed between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. next Sunday to accommodate the 2007 Peace Road Race: Old Mill Drive, East Park Drive, Valley Drive, West Cohasset Drive, West Park Drive, West Glacier Drive and Price Road.
